Located just one block up from the pier and beach in Pismo
Beach, this corner-joint is famous for one thing and one
thing only: clam chowder.
Is it worth it? You'll be surprised.
And when you get there, if the line is out the door and around
the corner (usual), wait. It's worth it. And after you place
your order, you can't find a table anywhere in the colorfully-painted,
Jersey shores-style joint, wait it out. Best bet: order the
bread bowl to go and head for the beach or pier.
The bread
bowls are secondary but critical. Each one includes the gutteddoughy
center that has been buttered and grilled as the same with
the lid. But the chowder...oh, the chowder. Thick and creamy
with
just the right mix of clams and potatoes. As a San Francisco
native, the City by the Bay has nothing on this creamy delight.
Add the seafood topping for the equivalent cherry on the
sundae!.
